Restoratively Driven, Interdisciplinary Powered Treatment Planning: A Protocol For Implant Success!

Speaker: Charles Girard, DDS

Friday, May 14, 2010

8:00 am to 4:00 pm (registration at 7:30 am)

Maggiano’s Little Italy, Skokie, IL

7 hours lecture credit

Course Description:

Clinical success depends on many individual small steps.  We should be both amazed and grateful when the results are better than expected!  One wrong move by anyone on the team can jeopardize the desired result.  Co-coordinating a dental team to be consistent, accurate, esthetic, punctual, and complimentary to each other is often left to chance.  Unless you are doing it all (the surgery, laboratory fabrication, and delivery of each case), there is a need for accurate communication to and by everyone involved.  Of all available options, the best person to quarterback the team is the restorative dentist.  The forming of interdisciplinary teams will be outlined.  Methods of communication between team members will be evaluated.  Case studies will aid in enhancing diagnostic/treatment/communication skills from the “bread and butter” single implant to full mouth reconstruction.  Throughout the presentation, evidence based literature will support the protocol.

Course Objectives:

-Learn how to plan cases systematically

-Learn the key elements in restoratively directed implant delivery

-Value of diagnosis, diagnostic wax-up, and surgical template

-What to look for in a surgeon, periodontist, orthodontist, lab technician

-Evaluate forms useful to communication

-Protocol for a single implant case

-Considerations for implant overdentures

-When to consider implants in the adolescent

-Learn the value of the immediate provisional

-Become familiar with “teeth in a day” implant care and the cone beam CT

-Treatment planning the “big” case

-Key factors to achieve a positive esthetic result

-Key factors to achieve a positive occlusal result

-Evaluate a multitude of practical tips

-How to involve staff-and how to define a fee.

-Where to find implant patients.

Description:

As dentists guiding our patients, we are often faced with restorative decisions that appear to be dilemmas: when to restore, extract and replace? When we choose to replace a tooth, do we choose implants or pontics? Which alternative offers an esthetic advantage, a functional advantage or cost advantage? This course will demonstrate how to surgically manage the soft tissue around a natural tooth, pontic, single implant, and two implants side by side. It will demonstrate soft tissue grooming with provisionals and impression making for the definitive restoration and cover managing soft tissue and biologic width around the BioHorizon implants utilizing the Laser-Lok® microchannels compared to flat top implants, scalloped implants or platform switching. This course includes a guided hands-on portion highlighting the BioHorizon Implant System.

Course Objectives:

-Communicate with patients when making difficult restorative choices

-Determine if a natural tooth may be predictably restored

-Surgically manage soft tissue around natural teeth, pontics, and implants

-Understand how biologic width is affected by implant design
